Wind Beneath Our Wings

duck flying over water

I know it's a song title, but it is apt for these thoughts, which I am sending out a bit early this week.

I opened the fridge door to get some milk out to make our first hot drink of the day. It was packed with food for the Easter weekend and I paused for a moment, full of gratitude. Life with Tim is calm and steady. Of course, things happen in life, but here, in our loving bubble in Wales, it is peaceful. We have both had long years when life was sharp, money was tight and we were struggling. That morning moment showed how blessed we are to have found each other.

My Mum lives in a care home and is bravely adjusting to this chapter in her life. At Christmas, the home was decorated to within an inch of its life, and I asked her if the same had happened for Easter. 'No' she replied, 'but all the staff are dressed as rabbits'. We are looking forward to visiting her tomorrow.

The team for the project Tim is working on is under a lot of pressure and there are frequent calls as colleagues check, help and support each other. It takes good listening skills and patience to handle the challenges, especially when the team mix is office, hybrid and home-based. The energy between them is caring and kind, and they are progressing well, holding hope for a night out together soon.

For each funeral service, the chapel is ready, with every detail lovingly checked by the chapel team. The funeral director's team arrive, service stationery is laid out, music and tributes are checked, and I arrange my ceremony papers on the lectern. We stand in line and greet the hearse and family as they arrive, bowing in unison. There is much evidence of the loving care from the funeral arrangers, chapel of rest attendants, florists and tribute specialists, who are not there in person. We all flow together with love and kindness and choose to keep in touch with each other privately.

The delivery driver who dropped nearly two tonnes of slate at our home this afternoon was kind. He carefully placed the dumpy bags at the edge of the area we will fill this weekend, surrounding the beautiful raised rose bed that Tim has built in the front garden. His thoughtfulness will save us a lot of energy.

Wind beneath our wings from kindness.

We wish you all a peaceful Eastertime.

What a beautiful picture you paint with your loving care and attention Jane... Easter is a special time of giving thanks. I am pleased to learn your Mum is settling in well too.. We have had family visit and its been a time of gathering and sharing laughter.. And it sounds as if all the planning both in your home garden and within Tim's busy schedule is also paying dividends as all comes together .. I have been absent for a while, but home to reconnect more often... Enjoy Easter Monday both of your.. Love Sue and B xxx 😁

Wishing you and Tim a peaceful Easter. Reading about your “bubble” in Wales makes me smile. Al and I refer to the area around where we live as our bubble, too. We give thanks for the Chesapeake Bay and a small freshwater lake that separates our neighborhood from the rest of the large city we live in. Having a companion who can enjoy the beauty of nature and a simple life is a blessing we both share. So enjoy your writing! Patty Hood, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
